If your radio has a switch that says AM-LSB-USB, then your radio has sideband or (ssb). Channel 36, "LSB" is where the net takes place every sunday night. Tune in the stations with your clarifier or voicelock knob and say hello. Everyone is welcome, 2w members and non members alike, we'd love to hear from you!

Sideband is slightly more professional than normal AM mode. There is no swearing, fighting, playing music or carrying on. Some humor and sillyness is necessary to keep it from being too boring, but we try to keep it within reason for all age groups. Roger beeps and echo are unacceptable. If you want to drink and act out and do whatever you want on the radio, go to channel 32 and hang out with those wack jobs...

Sideband signals travel much further than AM signals. Sideband has much less static than AM also. Usually when AM stations are having trouble communicating, they switch to ssb and they can talk. Long distance communications happen often on sideband when signals bounce off the atmosphere and back down to the ground hundreds of miles away. It is common to talk to canada or florida or missouri, or any other state on ssb late at night or early in the morning.

To break in, "CQ" or "QSK" are said instead of "breaker breaker" which is used on the normal AM mode. Listed below are more "Q" codes that we use on sideband.

QSK - "Hello? Anyone Out There?"
QSL - "10-4, Yes, Copy, I understand."
QRM - Interference "I have a lot of QRM here tonight, it is hard to hear you"
QTH - Location "What is your QTH? Where do you live?"
QRX - Current Time "What is the QRX?, QRX Please?"

Also you will hear a C code or two.

CQ - Breaker Breaker, Anyone Out There?
CQ DX - Long Distance (out of state or country breaker)
